Around this time last year, I remember viewing a fine 255-acre residential farm situated at Tulach Nore, Pike-of-Rushall, Portlaoise, Co Laois.

This was the biggest farm to arrive on the market in Co Laois last year, handled by Roscrea-based auctioneer Julie Fogarty from Sherry FitzGerald Fogarty.

Well, Julie has another gem for sale and it’s not a million miles away from Tulach Nore either. She has just launched Skeirke House in Co Laois, to the market this week.

Standing on circa 139 acres, Skeirke House has been in the same family since 1940 and comes to the market with a two-storey residence, a lovely courtyard, a range of traditional farm buildings and 139 acres of good quality grassland.

Sandwiched between the M7 (Dublin/Limerick) and M8 (Dublin/Cork) motorways, the property has a super location – eight miles from Borris-on-Ossory, 7.5 miles from Roscrea, 10 miles from Portlaoise and just a five-minute drive from the M7 motorway. Skeirke House was once part of a much larger holding and is well-known in the area.

While the entire would make a fabulous standalone entity for any expanding farmer, the property does come with a tremendous amount of frontage with at least three different roads making it extremely conducive to selling in lots.

This should undoubtedly lure in a nice level of local interest, particularly from those who may not have the financial ability to buy all 139 acres but who could try their hand at a smaller 20-acre or 50-acre parcel. The entire is guided in the region of €1.265m.
