Ewe lambs of all breeds were a strong trade at the annual Braid Sheddings show and sale at Ballymena mart on Saturday. Demand was strongest for Blackface ewe lambs and in particular Blackface Lanark type lambs. Topping the sale at £172 was Same Wallace from Broughshane’s top pen of ewe lambs that were placed first the Lanark show beforehand.

Demand was strongest for Blackface ewe lambs and in particular Blackface Lanark type lambs. Topping the sale at £172 was Same Wallace from Broughshane’s top pen of ewe lambs that were placed first the Lanark show beforehand.
Sam had a clean sweep in the show also taking second and third place with two pens that auctioneer Shaun Irvime sold for £130 and £115 respectively.
In the Blackface Perth type ewe lamb show, Tom Adams of Rathkenny took first and second place with his top two pens that later sold for £122 and £126 respectively. Third place in the Perth show was a pen that sold for £118 and was exhibited by Sam Adams from Broughshane.
Mules
In the Mule ewe lamb show, William Magee from Kilwaughter took first place with the hammer dropping at £108 for his pen of 12. Second and third went to Hugh Crawford from Glenarm and N. Frew from Broughshane with two pens that sold for £98 and £95 respectively.
Six pens of Greyface ewe lambs were on show with Robert Workman from Kilwaughter taking first place and selling his pen of ten for £98 in the sales ring.
Bidders stayed to the end of the sale to meet the Suffolk Cheviot ewe lambs with a firm trade also. First in the show was R and S Thompson from Glenarm’s top pen that sold for £132.
Ewes
Selling at the start of the sale were Blackface hoggets. Andrew Adams took first place in the Blackface Lanark type hogget show with a pen that made the highest hogget price on the day of £170. He also took second place with a pen that sold for £158 with G. McConnell from Carnalbana selling the third placed pen for £120.
In the Perth hogget show, Tom Adams had first and second with two pens that sold for £148 and £120 respectively.
