Total Chinese imports of SMP were at 17.9kt which is 2.2% behind the three year average, according to figures from FC Stone. New Zealand was the main supplier for those and imports for the year to date stand at 92.2kt, up 7.6% year on year.
WMP
Imports of WMP were also up by 3.1%, however if you look at the total amount of Whole Milk Powder imported by the end of April (227kt), this is a 3% drop compared with the same period last year. New Zealand origin WMP accounted for 94% of the 30.8kt imported in April.
Infant formula
There was a strong rise of 33.8% in infant formula imports for April, totalling 21.2kt. The Netherlands accounted for 29% of the April imports.
Butter and cheese
China imported 4.7kt of butter in April. The butter imports for the year to date now stand at 23.4kt, which is 14% less than the same period last year. Again, New Zealand is the main origin (86%) of imported butter.
On the other hand, cheese imports are up by 18.3% year on year, now at 36.2kt.
Whey
The US was the leading source of whey for China, which imported 41.4kt in April (24.3% higher than last year). China has imported 164.1kt of whey so far this year.
