Three herds that were removed from the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation’s (ICBF’s) whole herd performance recording programme have reapplied to enter the programme, according to an ICBF spokesperson.

The three herds, two of which are Limousin herds, were removed from the programme earlier this year after questions were raised over the birth dates recorded for calves in the programme.

Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal, the spokesperson said: “There will be a re-validation of the herds to rejoin the programme.

“The reputation of the whole herd recording programme is of paramount importance to the ICBF.”

While ICBF could not confirm whether the herds will be allowed to re-enter the programme, it is understood that they will not be allowed to return in time for the autumn society sales.

Visit

In total, to date, 550 herds have signed up to the programme.

Of this number, 340 herds have been visited by ICBF.

In early August, the Irish Farmers Journal revealed that three herds were removed from the programme.

The herds had their quality data stamps removed, which ruled them out of attending society sales.
