Europe’s two superpowers have cast doubt over the viability of a trade deal between the EU and the US reaching fruition. Last weekend, Germany’s vice chancellor and economy minister Sigmar Gabriel cast doubt on the future of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) due to a lack of interest on both sides. Speaking to German broadcaster ZDF, Gabriel said: “In my opinion, the negotiations with the United States have de facto failed, even though nobody is really admitting it.”
