According to Gardaí, the jeep had not been taxed for six years and had no NCT certificate. The jeep was also drawing a milk tank, but the driver was not licensed to tow a trailer.

Gardaí said they had seized the jeep and would summon the driver to appear in court.

According to the Road Safety Authority, a category B licence authorises the holder to drive a car, van or jeep with a maximum mass of 3,500kg and a maximum passenger capacity of eight people in addition to the driver. The same licence holder may tow a trailer with a maximum mass of 750kg or, where the trailer's maximum mass is more than 750kg, the combined maximum mass of the towing vehicle and the trailer is not greater than 3,500kg.

Under a category BE licence, the trailer and load can weigh up to 3,500kg and your vehicle can weigh up to the same maximum of 3,500kg, bringing the combined weight to 7,000kg.
