Hopes are growing that Irish beef will receive access to the lucrative Chinese market.

As exclusively revealed by the Irish Farmers Journal last week, a senior Chinese minister will visit Ireland next Monday 17 April.

The visiting Chinese minister’s brief includes food health and safety, which would include the detailed certification process required for all beef imports into China.

This is another step in Irish beef getting access to China. The process has been under way since China lifted the ban on Irish beef in 2015. China had banned all EU in 2000 over BSE.

China was the second-largest importer of beef in the world last year, importing 825,000t. This is forecast to rise to almost 1.2mT by 2025.
