With more than 50 entries, the winner of the Stylish Silage competition was revealed on Sunday. The competition was part of the An Tostal festival in Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim.
The very impressive train was designed and built by Mary Nugent, Sinead Dolan, Elaine Prior and Virgil Lynch. It was positioned at the site of the old train station in the town. The team wins €300.
Hugh James Gallagher was on the organising committee and he said the committee was overwhelmed by the level of entries.
“When we got going, we thought we’d be lucky if we got 10 entries but to get 51 is just incredible. It was a fierce effort by everyone to get the bales done to the level they are.
“There was great community buy-in and everyone got involved. There has been an incredible buzz around the place all week and there is great friendly competition among the people that entered.
“The farmers too deserve a mention. They gladly offered up bales to help with the initiative and we thank them all,” Gallagher said.
In second place was It’s a Turf Life and the team behind the impressive structure picks up cheque for €200.
It's a Turf Life came second.
And in third place was the Cookie Monster built the Littlewoods Montessori in the town. They take home €100.
Irish Farmers Journal news editor Patrick Donohoe was on the judging panel.
