Good quality forward stores from 500kg to 600kg were a solid trade once again, but like heavy bullocks, the numbers available was back on recent weeks.

Farmer buyers continue to be quite active for all types, with the most demand for those from 400kg to 500kg.

Cow trade

The cow ring saw another large sale, with lots of variety from Friesian cows to good quality fleshed continentals, what ensued was another firm trade.

Continental feeding cows from 600kg to 650kg sold mainly from €450 to €550 along with the weight, however, some lesser quality thin types made from €150 to €250 over. A selection of Friesian cows made around €300 over. Continental cull cows carrying flesh sold from €1.70/kg to €1.90/kg with some choice lots making over €2.00/kg.

Heifers

Heifers were a steady trade for all types. Heavy overage heifers were solid, selling at similar price to underage types, though the numbers of heifers over 600kg available were limited.

Heifers from 500kg to 600kg sold mainly from €1,100 to €1,450. Lighter store heifers from 400kg to 500kg were in good supply and prices ranged mainly from €2.30/kg to €2.50/kg for average quality types with better quality types making over €2.70/kg. Heifers from 300kg to 400kg were solid, but plainer types were a slightly weaker trade. Average continentals sold mainly from €750 to €950 depending on weight with well shaped types making over €1,050.

Those under 300kg were a solid trade.

Prices ranged mainly from €2.60/kg to €2.80/kg for these with top quality lots selling for more than €3/kg.
