Met Éireann's monthly report for June is dominated by the good weather seen near the end of the month. The last day of June saw temperatures reach as high as 25.6C in Phoenix Park in Dublin, the highest temperature so far of 2015 and the highest to be recorded in June since 1996. Temperatures were also very high in Malin Head, Co Donegal on June 30, reaching 24.7C, its highest for June since 1978.
It was also extremely dry in Ireland during the month and nearly all stations had rainfall totals below their LTA apart from some southern Atlantic coastal stations.
It was driest mainly in the east of the country and again Phoenix Park had the month’s lowest percentage of monthly rainfall, its driest June since 1975.
However, nearly all monthly mean air temperatures were below their LTA. Parts of the west, northwest and southwest of the country were down by 1 C with the largest difference of -1.4C reported at Markree, Co Sligo, which had a mean temperature of 11.9C.
June's lowest mean air temperature was 11.7C, recorded at both Knock Airport, Co Mayo, and at Malin Head, Co Donegal, while its highest mean air temperature of 13.6C was recorded at both Dublin's Phoenix Park and Shannon Airport, Co Clare.
Lowest grass temperature of -3.4C was recorded on 9 June, its lowest for June since 1965.
The most sunshine in one day was 15.7 hours reported at both Dublin Airport and Casement Aerodrome on 10 June. The number of dull days (days with less than 0.5 hours of sun) were up to nine at Valentia Observatory, Co Kerry.
