The Basic Payment Scheme advance cheques that arrived this week will be welcome for cash-starved farm businesses. Farmers need to be clear on what has to be paid and what would be nice to have. Hard decisions will have to be taken. Tax bills will be one of the first to be paid. Farmers then need to clear expensive credit lines.
