Farmers must provide evidence of completing a farm safety course in order to qualify for payment under TAMS II. Unless a farmer has completed the Green Cert in the past five years, they must have a safety course completed before seeking payment from the Department of Agriculture.
The terms and conditions of the scheme state that “in the case of a registered farm partnership or a company, the course must have been completed by the young farmer”.
Teagasc will be running half-day safety courses around the country to assist farmers meet the requirements. This course covers safety legislation, accident causation and advice on how to fill out a risk assessment form for your farm.
The course costs €30. Farmers who need to complete a farm safety course are encouraged to contact their local Teagasc office.
Teagasc will hold periodic courses around the country, depending on farmer demand in that area. The course is open to non-clients.
FRS is also providing safety courses for TAMS II. This course lasts three and a half hours and costs €40. Courses are usually held every fortnight in different locations around the country. To find out more about the courses, call 1890-201 000.
