Last Monday’s sale at Carnaross Mart saw another strong trade for good-quality stores and weanlings. The number entered continues to be fairly steady for the time of year.

There was a good share of heavy bullocks over 600kg on offer and these sold mainly from €800 to €1,000 over the weight. Those from 500kg to 600kg sold mainly from €650 to €800 along with the weight, with plainer Friesians making from €1.80/kg to €1.90/kg.

There was solid demand once again for light store bullocks from 400kg to 500kg and these sold mainly from €500 to €700 along with the weight for continentals, while Friesians made from €1.75/kg to €1.85/kg or from €350 to €400 over.

Plain feeding Friesian cows sold from €1.20/kg to €1.50/kg, with fleshed Friesians making up to €460 along with the weight. Fleshed continental culls sold from €1.85/kg to €2.00/kg, with up to €2.26/kg paid for a young Limouisin.

The heifer trade saw those over 600kg average from €2.10/kg to €2.20/kg, with stores from 500kg to 600kg selling mainly from €2.20/kg to €2.40/kg for average-quality types and up to €2.68/kg for top-quality U grades.

Those under 500kg were met with firm farmer demand and sold from €500 to €650 along with the weight. Commission rates are €9 to the buyer and €13 to €15 to the seller.
