Demand continues to be fairly strong, with farmers still active for all types, even later-born calves. Again, the largest supply are Hereford and Angus bulls and heifers, which have seen prices increase by €20 to €40 per head in the past week, driven by a better supply of slightly stronger calves on offer. The average Angus bull is making €230/head, with heifers just €10/head behind that.

The average Hereford bull is making €270, with heifers running again just €10/head behind that. Friesian bull calves are scarce and are selling from €100 to €130/head. Demand for stronger calves and runners is very strong, with plenty of farmers active for all types.

The trade for cull cows continues to be brisk in many areas, with plenty of agents active. At the top of the market, fleshed and factory-fit continental cows are a firm trade. Prices for young cow heifers are strong, with €2.10kg to €2.15/kg being paid in some cases. Plainer Continentals that are almost factory fit are making from €1.80/kg for planer types to €1.95/kg for good-quality cows. Feeding continentals are still firm, but plainer feeding cows are a more variable in some areas. Typical feeding continental cull cows are making from €1.65/kg to €1.85/kg for warm cows, with old thin types making from €150 over and upwards. Short-keep Friesian feeding cows are making from €1.35/kg to €1.65/kg depending on quality.
