Co-ops offered growers €135 to €137/t this week for green barley for harvest and €148 to €150/t for green wheat.
Some private merchants offered €140 to €141/t for green barley in recent days.
The commencement of harvest has resulted in additional activity in the local market. Carryover stocks seem low in Ireland and international prices have been strengthening.
Demand from merchants appears to be good but feed mills are standing back from buying in the belief that prices may drop back again.
International prices have been trending upwards for the past few weeks and this has helped native prices. But currency is also affecting the cost of equivalent imports to improve the competitiveness of non-European imports.
