One man was hospitalised, and two men were arrested by police following an assault on a farm near Eglinton, Co Derry, last Thursday.
The incident occurred before an annual public auction for the letting of conacre on the farm.
“When officers arrived, they found that a man had been hit in the face and over the head with a type of baton,” Sergeant Richard Watkin from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) told the Irish Farmers Journal.
The man had several injuries and was treated both at the scene by the Ambulance Service and later in hospital.
A window in the man’s car was also smashed in the incident.
“Two men, aged 52 and 22, were arrested at the address on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place,” Sergeant Watkin said.
Local reports suggest the feud between the men has been ongoing for some time and the assault happened before last week’s auction began.
The PSNI said the two men have been released on police bail, pending further enquiries.
