It is completely unacceptable that the new ownership structures for veterinary practices should come into being without vets being adequately informed beforehand. Veterinary Ireland CEO Finbarr Murphy has some explaining to do and should consider his position.
Under his leadership younger members of the profession have been hung out to dry and older members wonder what is going on. This is hardly re-assuring for our farming clients who rely on a buoyant veterinary service for so much. Vets’ expenses between registration fees, professional indemnity insurance and all sorts of compliance fees are going sky high. Just as there are part-time farmers, there will be more part-time vets. More communication among vets is essential to improve morale and mental wellbeing in vets, and address issues, without the invasion of foreign corporates.
The lack of vision in some quarters of Veterinary Ireland is doing a disservice to vets, and farmers, and needs to be addressed urgently.
