Dairy farmer Peter Mordaunt was left without milk collection for a full week in Ballythomas, Co Wexford. Between his last collection last Tuesday and the clearing of his road by himself, other farmers and the county council, he said he had to dump 4,500l of milk on Sunday. “The shed fell as well,” he said, after a 25x30ft roof collapsed under the weight of the snow. Cows were housed in the shed but escaped uninjured. With water supply back, all calves alive and no power cuts, Peter was optimistic enough this week to describe himself as “lucky”. He added that working with neighbours had been key to surviving the storm: “Everyone pulled in.”
