The Department of Agriculture spent almost €12m last year on travel, training and consultancy services.

Travel cost the department €7.8m to the year ending 31 December 2017. The breakdown shows that the majority of the expense was in Ireland. Travel within Ireland cost almost €4.7m. Training costs for the Department of Agriculture totalled €1,065,633. Over €340,000 was spent on IT skills, while health and safety training cost over €38,000.

A total of 66 consultants were paid €2.8m for services to the department.
