The Argentinian government has set down ambitious targets for the country’s grain production up to 2030. Under the new targets, Argentina aims to produce 150m tonnes of grain, while a target of 180m tonnes has been set for 2030. Last year, Argentina produced 135m tonnes of grain.
US president Donald Trump has continued to stoke tensions in global trade circles after threatening to impose $200bn worth of new levies on Chinese goods entering the US, only days after he slapped $50bn in tariffs on Chinese imports. China has called the move “blackmail”.
New Zealand’s milking season for 2017/18 (Jun-May) finished the year on a high to reach 20.65bn litres, which is in line with the 2016/17 season. A late flurry in milk production in April and May helped make up ground lost in December and January, when the country experienced a bad drought.
French milk production for the month of April fell by 1% year on year to just over 2.1bn litres. The decline was due to the prolonged winter weather conditions, which lasted until April. French milk production for the first four months of 2018 is just over 8.3bn litres, which is 1.5% ahead of last year.
