Each county in Ireland will be visited by an Embrace Farm tractor travelling around the country this autumn.

The group raises awareness of farm accidents and provides support for survivors and their families, and the initiative aims to promote awareness of farm accidents.

The tractor drive will be launched at Tullamore Show on 12 August and make its final pit stop at the National Ploughing Championships on 18 September.

Organisers of the drive say the aim of the project is to help remember those who were killed and injured in farm accidents and to bring awareness of farm safety in helping to prevent farm accidents and fatalities.

"Mounted upon the tractor will be an eternal light representing those that have lost their lives around the Island of Ireland," the organisers said.

"With around 290 lives lost in the last 10 years, representing a farmer killed every two weeks across the 32 counties, the tractor will display these stark statistics to remind people to be always aware of the farming environment and to farm safely."

Agriculture has the highest number of deaths per industry in Ireland, and the fatality rate remains worryingly high, with three deaths recorded during Farm Safety Week last month.
