The Waikato region in New Zealand was and still is the traditional heartland of dairy farming in New Zealand. A bit like the Golden Vale or west Cork in Ireland, the whole economy was built on and is structured around dairy farming. Farm sizes here are smaller than in most other parts of New Zealand and land prices are generally higher at NZ$60,000 to $80,000/ha (€36,000 to €48,000/ha) for a fully developed farm, less the stock.
