A four-day training course organised by the German-based IBBK biogas association will take place in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh from 19 to 22 February.

It will be suitable for farmers, developers, operators and consultants interested in entering the renewable gas industry, said Shane McBrien of the Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies (CREST) who are hosting the course in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.

This is the third year such training is offered and next month’s course will be delivered in two modules to suit people with different interests. The first two days will focus on anaerobic digestion biology, design and optimisation, including a practical session in the CREST lab.

The second half will cover upgrading of gas and digestate to facilitate the sale of biomethane, including for grid injection, and the spreading of bio fertiliser.

“People with good biology knowledge may be interested in the second module only and vice-versa,” said McBrien.

Experts from across Europe will deliver the course, but it will be “specific to the Irish context and market,” he added.

Administrative aspects and support schemes are not covered by this training. The cost to attend each module is €690 if booked before 21 January, or €790 thereafter. The full course costs €990, or €1,290 after 21 January. Full details and registration are available online at ifj.ie/ibbk.
