The Beef Plan Movement has not ruled out the possibility of running candidates in local elections, according to founders Hugh Doyle and Eamon Corley.
However, it has not decided that it will be a policy for the organisation either.
“We haven’t decided we are going to do it as a policy,” Beef Plan Movement chair Corley told the Irish Farmers Journal.
“There are a couple of farmers we’re talking about putting themselves forward as candidates.” Doyle said that the Beef Plan Movement is “looking at all our options”.
The constitution of farm organisations such as the IFA and Macra na Feirme requires members to step down from their roles in the organisation if they decide to become a candidate for election.
