A factsheet on silage safety has been produced for contractors and farmers ahead of the main silage harvest in 2019.
Better communication between farmers, contractors and their staff has been highlighted as key by the Association of Farm and Forestry Contractors in Ireland (FCI), who produced the factsheet.
FCI recommended a face-to-face or over-the-phone meeting between the farmer and contractor to reach an understanding and establish clear roles, responsibilities and actions. This small step would help prevent gaps in managing health and safety.
Factsheet
The factsheet consists of a number of questions that farmers and contractors could ask to ensure a safe completion of silage.
