Eight farmers were fined a total of €22,000 for use of green diesel in the first quarter of 2019, the list of tax defaulter shows. Farmer and PAYE employee William O’Shea of Ballyroughan, Borris, Co Carlow was fined €4,000 for the misuse of marked mineral oil.

Meanwhile, some 13 farmers and agricultural contractors were fined for failure to lodge income tax returns. The highest penalty was payed by John McLoughlin of Phoenixtown, Ardbracken, Navan, Co Meath. He was fined €3,750 for three charges in relation to the offence.
A farmer and company secretary, Kevin O’Brien, from Atlantic View, Doolin, Co Clare, was given a penalty of €108,423.77 by the courts for under-declaration of VAT and Income Tax in the amount of €108,298.77.
Farmer and musician Michael Sexton from The White House, Shanaway, Miltown Malbay, Co Clare, undeclared income tax and VAT to the tune of €47,001.27. Including interest and penalties he was ordered to pay €97,811.27. As of 31 March 2019, there was still €57,811.27 of this outstanding.
Meanwhile, milk processing company Moo-Licious Foods Limited of Glencrow, Moville, Co Donegal, made a settlement of €96,507.00 with the Revenue Commissioners in Revenue Audit Case. The payment includes tax, interest and penalties. The company was found to have under declared PAYE/PRSI/USC and VAT to the value of €59,767.00.
