Two young calves were shot with a crossbow, with one calf dying as a result, on a farm in Warwickshire, England, at the weekend.

The farmer, Megan Stephens, said that one was shot in the hind leg and one was shot twice in the shoulder.

“It’s just a heartbreaking situation,” Stephens told the Irish Farmers Journal.

“It is beyond me how on earth any human being can do something like this, leave the calves in such pain and cause so much heartache," she said.

She said that luckily for the oldest calf the arrow hadn't gone in too far saying that hopefully it would recover with a course of injections. The youngest calf died as a result of its injuries, with an arrow puncturing its lung.
