The Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed is set to launch a renewed TB strategy in the autumn.

The new strategy will be based partly on the proposals submitted by the TB forum, made up of relevant farm stakeholders.

“There are no easy options left for dealing with bovine TB, so the members of the TB forum deserve credit for engaging with these difficult choices and producing a report with recommendations to reduce disease levels further,” Minister Creed said.

“I know that there were other areas on which agreements could not be reached, but I am confident, nevertheless, that this report represents a significant step forward.”

TB reduction

There has been a notable reduction in the number of reactors in TB blackspot areas in the first half of the year.

Nationally, the number of reactors has fallen by almost 10% in comparison to the first six months of 2018. From January until the end of June, there were 7,089 reactors. This was down from 7,703 last year.
