Members of the Beef Plan Movement have targeted Dawn Meats in Slane for the latest in a series of peaceful protests outside meat factories.

Protests began on Sunday evening at ABP Bandon in Co Cork and have since spread nationwide with a number beginning at 6am on Monday 29 July.

The Beef Plan Movement said it intends to maintain a presence outside the Meath factory overnight.

Elsewhere, there have been protests outside ABP Cahir, Dawn Meats Ballyhaunis, Dawn Meats Rathdowney, Kepak Kilbeggan, Kepak Athleague, ABP Nenagh and Liffey Meats Ballinasloe.

Farmers have been encouraged not to send cattle to factories in support of the protests.

Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal on Monday evening, Beef Plan Movement joint chair Eamon Corley said farmers wanted a sustainable price.

He said there was a huge discrepancy in the retail price of beef and the €3.50/kg being received by farmers.
