Thirty-month age limits, the so-called four movement rule and the 70-day residency rule are on the agenda for Tuesday morning’s beef industry meeting, according to a Beef Plan Movement spokesman.

The Beef Plan Movement wants the 30 month rule abolished, he said – “All farmers want it abolished”.

The group wants the three items to be discussed at length, saying it is open to dialogue on what it sees as trade blocks for farmers.

It hopes that Minister Creed’s presence will help the negotiations.

“I’m sure the minister doesn’t want talks to fail, I envisage there will be wins when the Minister is there,” the spokesperson told the Irish Farmers Journal.

He added that there was unity between farm organisations at the talks.

Protests

In a statement read to Monday’s meeting about Beef Plan protests by co-chair Hugh Doyle, he said: “Beef Plan is looking for an acknowledgement from MII [Meat Industry Ireland] that we are taking a step back from all future protests from this day forward and will take no hand act or part in any such protests.

“We are seeking for MII to acknowledge this and withdraw all future litigation”.

The Beef Plan representative said there had been no response to the statement from Meat Industry Ireland.

Talks between the farm organisations, factories and Minister Creed are set to resume on Tuesday morning at 10am.
