The Beef Exceptional Aid Measure (BEAM) closes to applications on Sunday 8 September, with a payment of €100 per animal available.

The Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS) has warned farmers to check the onward slaughter date of animals sold in order to avoid missing out.

Ray Doyle of ICOS advised: “Where an animal has been presented for slaughter by an agent or dealer within 30 days of purchase, including those purchased in the mart, payment may be made to the immediate previous herd owner.

“The message is to check your entitlement now. You can do this through your agfood.ie profile, but you must act now.”

Under the BEAM scheme, bovine animals aged over 12 months and presented to a slaughtering plant between 24 September 2018 and 12 May 2019 can receive the aid payment at a rate of €100 per animal, subject to a maximum of 100 such animals per eligible herd.

Based on data presented by the Department of Agriculture, over 37,000 beef finishers and 55,000 suckler farmers are eligible.
