The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has decided to postpone its planned meeting on the ongoing beef crisis.
The committee had intended to meet with Minister for Agriculture Micael Creed and Michael Dowling, independent talks chair, in relation to the dispute in the beef producing sector.
The decision to postpone the meeting was taken in light of planned talks between farmers and factories, set to commence on Monday.
Not helpful
Pat Deering, chair of the joint committee, said it would not be helpful for the committee to be meeting at the same time as stakeholder discussions are reconvening.
“Given the protracted nature of the dispute, and the impact that it is having on the beef sector, it is important that that the stakeholder discussions are allowed to proceed without any possible distractions,” Deputy Deering said.
The committee hopes to re-engage on the issue as soon as the stakeholder discussions are concluded, he added.
