Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed has summoned the factory representative body Meat Industry Ireland (MII) to a meeting this afternoon, the Irish Farmers Journal understands.
The talks are expected to centre on how the two sides in the ongoing beef crisis can return to the table for talks on a resolution.
Lay-offs
It is understood that the meeting will take place in Agriculture House in Kildare Street.
They will be followed by a series of meetings with farm organisations later this evening.
The move comes following the announcement of 3,000 lay-offs by meat factories and the recent announcement that Kepak will also temporarily lay-off 1,250 of its staff.
