Homebyres dispersal tops 26,000gns for cow and calf pair

The dispersal sale of the Homebyres Limousin herd took place in Carlisle over the weekend, with prices peaking at 26,000gns for a cow and calf pair. The four-year-old cow Homebyres Lovely hit the market at the top price of 17,000gns, before her bull calf Homebyres Prodigy sold directly after her for 9,000gns.

The dispersal sale of the Homebyres Limousin herd took place in Carlisle over the weekend, with prices peaking at 26,000gns for a cow and calf pair.

The four-year-old cow Homebyres Lovely hit the market at the top price of 17,000gns, before her bull calf Homebyres Prodigy sold directly after her for 9,000gns.

Family line

Lovely is an Ampertaine Foreman daughter out of the herd’s best family line. Along with producing Lovely, her dam also produced the 17,000gns Homebyres Ericson.

Securing the high-seller was Messrs McKerrow and sons based out of the Scottish borders. Messrs Ralph secured her April bull calf Prodigy, who is a son of Fieldson Alfy.

The sale throughout was very strong, with 32 lots securing bids of 5,000gns or more. The averages were led by that of the cows, with 67 selling to average just shy of 5,200gns.

Securing the second-top price was the maiden heifer Homebyres Nicety, which was knocked down to an undisclosed buyer at 14,000gns.

This Larkhill Julius-sired heifer is out of the homebred Homebyres Duplicity, which had previously bred stock that then sold for as high as 13,000gns.

Choice lots

The first of two lots to hit the 10,000gns mark was Homebyres Odyssey. This 19-month-old daughter of Lowerffrydd Empire is the first offspring of the previously mentioned sale-topper Homebyres Lovely.

This powerful heifer has already proven her worth in the sales ring by securing the reserve junior female championship at this year’s Grand Prix. She was the pick of Tomlinson and son, based in Notts.

Matching her at the money was the July 2017-born heifer Homebyres Olive. This daughter of the aforementioned Larkhill Julius goes back on Homebyres Echinaclea, which sold for 5,500gns in the sale.

This seven-year-old sold in-calf to Westpit Highlander and had previously bred bulls to 8,000gns

The seven-year-old Homebyres Hillie was next in line selling for 8,800gns with her April-born bull calf at foot. Sired by Lowerffrydd Empire, her pedigree also features Sympa and Grahams Talent.

Empire was again behind the 8,500gns Homebyres Honesty, which sold alongside her April-born bull calf by Ampertaine Elgin. This seven-year-old sold in-calf to Westpit Highlander and had previously bred bulls to 8,000gns.

Matching her at the 8,500gns price tag was Homebyres Lady. Sired by Cloughhead Umpire, she sold with her April-born bull calf at foot by Westpit Highlander.

The previously mentioned Westpit Highlander was next in line when he sold for 8,000gns. This seven-year-old Netherhall Doubleoseven son has previously bred bulls to over 8,000gns, along with breeding the overall champion at Stirling in February 2018.

Following this, five young bulls sold to average £5,145. In the maiden heifer section, a total of 25 sold to average £4,210, while seven served heifers sold for £4,245.
