A flock of 40 sheep were attacked by dogs in Termonfeckin, Co Louth, on Sunday 24 November. Two dogs were witnessed carrying out the attack and a Husky-breed dog was shot at the scene. The second dog was a Husky/Terrier cross.

According to the flock owner, 13 sheep were killed in the incident and the remaining 27 are in a state of considerable stress.

The attack was first brought to my attention because an Alpaca that was sharing the field was visibly injured

“The sheep were ran into ditches, down drains and stuck between hedges, they’re in an awful state,” he said.

“The attack was first brought to my attention because an Alpaca that was sharing the field was visibly injured and I thought that I’d better go up to the back field and check the sheep, that’s when I found the dogs attacking them,” he added.

This is the third such attack in Co Louth in recent weeks. Two other similar attacks occurred to flocks in Hackballs Cross and a third in Knockbridge, earlier this month.
