Aldi is set to have a green Christmas, by sourcing 100% of the Christmas trees it sells in its Irish stores this year from Ireland.
According to the retail giant, this will significantly reduce its carbon footprint by reducing travel costs, with trees brought directly from forest to shop floor within 36 hours.
The trees are all non-shed Nordmann Firs and grown by Forest Fresh Ireland in Wexford, Wicklow and Tipperary.
Supporting Irish jobs
"With trees grown locally, customers can be assured they are both supporting Irish jobs and doing their part for the environment this festive season. Our crops are grown across 158ha in Wexford, Wicklow and Tipperary, removing over 1,500t of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere per year,” Patricia Denning of Forest Fresh Ireland said.
