Bosco, Once Upon A time Tour – 12 January: The Paula Lambert Puppet Theatre presents Bosco’s Once Upon A Time Tour at 2pm in the Ramor Theatre, Cavan. After starring on Irish TV for three decades, this cheeky, funny, eternal five-year-old who lives in a box continues to be a firm favourite for many generations. Enjoy the story of Sleeping Beauty, where an evil fairy filled with jealousy tries to harm Beauty, but thankfully she has good fairy friends. Frankie’s Guys – 16 January: Wayne Whelan and Zac Global Promotions have announced the return of their nationwide tour. A celebration of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons will take place in Hawk’s Well Theatre, Sligo. The show features four talented London West End performers and is a celebration of not just Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, but of the sounds of the 1960s, including music from other beloved artists such as Roy Orbison and Jackie Wilson. Frankie’s Guys pride themselves on their energetic shows filled with choreography, eye-catching costumes and beautiful harmonies. Tickets range from €12.50 to €25. Brewhouse Jazz – 12 January: Visit Franciscan Well Brew Pub, Cork, for a lively Sunday jazz session in the beer garden at 6.30pm. Some of Cork’s best swing dancers will be there and this weekly event gives you the space to have an end-of-week boogie. Influences on the night will include Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli, Oscar Peterson and numerous other jazz giants. Pinky Trolley will bring a classic approach to equally classic music. The event is free. In the pub you can also avail of the pubs own pizzas and craft beers.
1917 – out 10 January: 1917 is directed and produced by Sam Mendes, who directed Skyfall. Mendes wrote the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns and it stars George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman and Mark Strong. The film is based in part on an account told to Mendes by his paternal grandfather, Alfred Mendes. The story follows two young British soldiers during spring 1917 in World War I, on a mission to deliver a message which will warn of an ambush during one of the skirmishes soon after the German retreat to the Hindenberg Line during Operation Alberich. This film is rated 15A.
