There was strong demand for in-calf heifers at the dairy sale at Corrin Mart, Fermoy last Friday.

This heifer with an EBI of €188 is due in February to Angus bull KYA, She sold for €1,110.

With 135 lots on offer and a 98% clearance, mart manager, Sean Leahy was happy with the sale which saw a high average of €1,250.

“The drivers in price were first of all the physical size of the heifers, then the calving date, then EBI after that it was the kilos of milk solids.

This January 2018-born heifer is due to calve in February, with an EBI of €214 she sold for €1,570.

The higher the figures and the stronger the heifer the more she made. Buyers were watching the figures and the physical heifer was the starting point. We’ve another sale with an entry of 70 heifer Friday so hopefully trade will be as good.”

There was a turnout of mainly strong heifers backed up by production figures and EBI. Heifers with less figures available were on the back foot before bidding started.

This in-calf heifer with an EBI of €101 made €1,160.

Consistency was key to this sale and it showed with the tightness of the price bracket. €1,150 to €1,350 would have bought at least 75% of what was on offer. At the top end of the sale was a

January 2018 born heifer out of Milewater Leon, with an EBI of €214 and due in early February, she sold for €1,570.

This March 2018-born in-calf heifer with an EBI of €103 sold for €1,220.

Commission is 1.5% to the seller and 2.5% to the buyer. The entry fee is €2.50.

Highest price: €1,570.

With an EBI of €127, this March 2018 born heifer sold for €1,350.

This February 2018-born in-calf heifer had an EBI of €112 and sold for €1,340.

With an EBI of €93 this March 2018 born in-calf heifer made €1,190.

Due to calf in Febraury this heifer with an EBI of €134 sold for €1,480.

A pure bred Montbeliarde with an EBI of €33 made €1,140.

With an EBI of €139, this in-calf heifer made €1,200.

This heifer has an EBI of €112, she sold for €1,260.

Born in February 2018 and due in early February, this heifer with an EBI of €127 sold for €1,470.

This May 2018 born heifer and due in March has an EBI of €122 and she sold for €1,320.
