The IFA has advised members that it is running county meetings as scheduled.

There have been a number of large event cancellations across the country, but the IFA said it was important to keep its response proportionate to the scale of the issue.

The organisation says it is working off the advice of health professionals and advising farmers to take appropriate measures to avoid getting the virus.

Concern

“Like all families, farm families are very concerned about the virus, with the additional concern about the potential impact the virus would have at farm level should a farmer be missing from the farm for any period due to illness,” the IFA said.

“It is extremely important that appropriate measures are put in place, and adhered to, but it is important that measures are proportionate and are based on advice from health professionals.”

To date, 33 cases of the virus have been confirmed on the island of Ireland, with 21 cases in the Republic of Ireland.

They advised farmers to visit the HSE website for more information.
