All club and county ploughing matches have been cancelled indefinitely on the back of the coronavirus.
Vice-chair of the National Ploughing Association Padraig Nolan told the Irish Farmers Journal at Roscommon Mart on Friday that all ploughing matches have been called off.
“We’ve just received a directive from the national ploughing [association] that all ploughing matches, both club and county, have been called off indefinitely as and from today on the back of the coronavirus,” he said.
RDS spring awards postponed
The RDS has also taken the decision to postpone its upcoming spring agriculture and forestry awards ceremony until a later date.
“The RDS is taking all practical, and recommended, measures to help contain the spread of Covid-19 and we appreciate your understanding at this time.
“The rescheduled date has yet to be confirmed,” a statement from the RDS said on Friday.
It hopes that the awards can take place in June, but, if not, September is the other option at the moment.
