Donegal woman Caroline Glackin has put a smile on many faces after creating a ‘farm fitness’ video from her family farm in Malin Head.
Talking to the Irish Farmers Journal, Caroline explained that the idea was planted in her brain by one of her friends who was in self-isolation after returning from America.
“We were one week into lambing and my friend who just arrived back from America was in self-isolation and she was just saying how she missed the gym.”
Lambing and calving kicked off on the Glackin farm the day after An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar announced the closure of all schools and creches.
Caroline, who is a pre-school teacher, arrived back just in time to help her father with all the farm duties.
“I explained to my friend that I felt like I was in the gym every day, my body was sore from lambing and farming. She told me I should make a video of what I do, this is really where the idea came from.”
Donegal farmer Caroline Glackin has been farming at home with her father since schools closed due to COVID-19.
What started off to be a laugh turned into a video that has got hundreds of views on YouTube and Facebook.
Watch: Workout while you work.
Positive response
“All my friends think it’s hilarious. I wasn’t expecting it to be that funny, I only did it for a laugh. If I can make one person laugh I am happy, but the feedback I am getting is brilliant. It is a bit of light-hearted fun.”
Apart from making videos, Caroline has been extremely busy at home on the farm, where 50 ewes have lambed in the past three weeks alongside cows who are non-stop calving.
“Dad would get up and do the night shift and I would get up in the morning and start all the feeding.
"He has never had as much help during lambing season. I love the farming, it is a blessing that we get on so well, it makes it work."
COVID-19
"We are really taking the coronavirus situation seriously. We are lucky we are here in Malin Head because it is really rural and you wouldn’t see many people anyway.
"The local Red Cross are brilliant for helping people in the community, my sister is volunteering with them. "
