Like many sectors, the impact of COVID-19 on farming has been severe. Seldom have we seen anything have such a quick and severe impact on market prices. Over the past five weeks, beef prices have fallen by 30-40c/kg for prime stock and as much as 80c/kg for cows. The collapse comes at a time when farmers would traditionally have been budgeting for prices to increase – so in effect, the financial impact is even greater than the extent of the collapse.
