Gardaí were called to the M9 in Carlow on Tuesday evening after lambs escaped onto the motorway.
Officers from Carlow roads policing and the local animal rescue team were called to the scene after a number of lambs made their way onto what is usual a busy motorway.
In a tweet, gardaí said there were no incidents as a result of their incursion and the lambs were returned back to their field safely.
Drivers were warned to always expect the unexpected on the roads.
