Summer weather has driven sales of sausages, burgers and ice cream.

The latest figures from Kantar show a significant increase in the last four weeks.

“It seems many of us enjoyed the barbecue weather as shoppers spent an additional €3.8m on sausages and burgers. Ice cream sales were worth an extra €5.9m,” they said, referring to the same four-week period in 2019 and 2020.

Overall, take-home grocery sales grew by 25.4% over the past 12 weeks. That marked the fastest growth rate recorded over the last 15 years.

SuperValu was the fastest-growing retailer and claimed the largest market share.
