A farmer in his mid-70s died following a farm incident in Galway on Sunday.
The incident happened in Kilconly, Tuam, in the county. A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Farmers Journal that the incident involved a tractor.
“The incident occurred shortly after 6.30pm on Sunday and gardaí attended the scene.
“The man was removed to University Hospital Galway where he was pronounced dead.
“An Garda Síochána is liaising with the HSA and a file is to be prepared for the county coroner,” the spokesperson said.
It brings to three the number of fatalities in the last week involving farm machinery in the Republic of Ireland.
On 3 June, a man in his 70s died following an incident involving a quad on a farm in Co Cork and a cyclist in his 60s received fatal injuries on 6 June as a result of a collision between the cyclist and a tractor.
Armagh incident
On Saturday, a farmer was killed in a farm incident on the Madden Road area of Keady, Co Armagh, on Saturday.
A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI) said it is aware of the incident in Keady on Saturday and is making enquiries.
"Our thoughts are with the deceased’s family at this tragic time. There have been two farm deaths so far this year [on Northern Ireland farms]," the spokesperson added.
Last week, five people including a child were taken to hospital after a crash between a car and a tractor in Co Antrim on 3 June.
