The details of a proposed beef support scheme and the attached small print will be important, IFA president Tim Cullinan has said.
Cullinan welcomed the development that Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed will put a support package for beef finishers in front of the Cabinet on Friday.
“I hope that this scheme will be worthwhile and straightforward,” he said.
The Irish Farmers Journal understands that the package will be at least €10m and farmers will be permitted to apply to the scheme based on cattle slaughtered in a reference period during the coronavirus lockdown.

The IFA had made submissions to Government demonstrating that beef finishers had lost over €20m as a result of the COVID-19 price impact.
“The closure of the food service sector across Europe really hit beef finishers and they badly need help to cover these losses,” the IFA president said.
The package must secure the approval of Cabinet before it can progress any further.
