The latest Global Dairy Trade (GDT) auction held on Wednesday 18 August has seen the price index drop by 1.7% from the previous event.

The average price now stands at just over $3,000 (€2,522) following the sale of 31,331t of dairy products.

It was a difficult sale for fats, with butter falling 2% to $3,370 (€2,826) and cheddar taking the biggest slide down 3.6% to $3,442 (€2,886).

Skim milk powder (SMP) increased by 1.1% to $2,608, but it was less positive for whole milk powder (WMP) which finished down 2.2% at $2,936 (€2,462).
