Analysis of the latest figures show that the drive to expand has slowed down, with the number of young farmers claiming stock relief dropping by over 100 to 420 last year.
Up until 2019, the number of young farmers claiming the relief had increased consistently over the last five years.

However, young farmers appear to be cementing their grip in other ways, with a 50% increase in the number claiming the €5,000/year tax credit for succession farm partnerships.
There was also an increase in the number claiming stamp duty relief, with 1,128 claiming €14.6m in relief last year. Cork had the highest number of young farmers claiming stamp duty relief, followed by Galway and Tipperary.
