The Global Dairy Trade (GDT) price index has fallen by 1% at the latest auction held on 1 September.

It is the fourth consecutive fall in the index, but the smallest decrease since 21 July.

The average price now stands at just under $2,955 (€2,474).

In total, 35,656t of product was sold.

The largest drop was in the price paid for whole milk powder (WMP), down 2% to $2,884 (€2,414), while skim milk powder (SMP) rose by 1.8% to $2,663 (€2,229).

Butter fell by 1.2% to $3,334 (€2,791), while there was a marginal decrease for cheddar by 0.4% to $3,428 (€2,870).

Lactose held steady at $1,314 (€1,100).

The next auction will take place on 15 September.
