The weekend just gone would usually see dozens of Irish cattle breeders fly across the water to attend the renowned Stirling bull sales in Scotland.

However, this wasn’t the case this year with strict restrictions in place due to COVID-19.

These restrictions also limited numbers ringside and meant no pre-sale show was undertaken.

Angus first through the ring

The first breed through the ring for this year’s autumn sales was the Angus, which peaked at 10,000gns.

Securing the top price was the April 2019-born bull Ettrick Batman V227 from Messrs Grey.

This is one of the first sons of the 2017 October bull sales champion Linton Gilbertines President S021 to be offered for sale.

Out of the homebred Ettrick Bella N122, he was secured by A, M and C Ewen from Cornwall.

Overall, the breed performed pretty well, with the average price rising by £455 to level at £5,051. Clearance rate was affected though, dropping to 66%, as 40 of the 60 bulls sold.
